Achieve 7-Star Energy Efficiency for Your Home
Expertly guiding homeowners and builders to attain the mandatory 7-Star energy rating, our approach blends compliance with cost-effective sustainability.
7 Star Energy Assessments
- The 2022 National Construction Code (NCC) has increased the minimum energy efficiency rating to 7 Stars for all new Australian homes and apartments.
- These new requirements will see increased levels of specifications which will add to the building costs
- Having the home assessed by an experienced and qualified assessor is critical to ensure the most cost-effective outcome is achieved
Achieving 7 Stars will require higher levels of specification
- Increase insulation
- Improved window performance i.e. double glazing
- Reduce the amount of glazing to avoid heat loss and heat gain
- Selecting the correct orientation to maximise the benefits of passive solar
- Selecting the right external colours for the specific climate zone
- Reducing the area of voids to help control temperature
- Increase the number of rooms that can be closed off with internal door
New energy efficiency targets mean increased build costs
The Australian Government has committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050. Resulting in a dramatic increase in BASIX standards for energy use and thermal performance for all new home builds in New South Wales, and if you’re planning to build a new house, you will need to understand how the changes will affect you.
Changes to Basix (1 October 2023)
One of the key changes to BASIX is the minimum standard of compliance with the Building Code of Australia’s energy efficiency requirements, which is being increased from 5 stars to 7 stars in NSW. That means reducing water and energy consumption in measurable ways.

The days of just selecting any block of land and then choosing the house design based on functionality alone are over. It’s critical the correct advice is sought prior to committing to a builder or block of land. That having already purchased a land site and then selecting the wrong design for that site could see the build cost increase by tens of thousands of dollars
